Midget Boy’s Basketball
The Midget Boys Spartans started off their season with a close win over Marymount High School, a team the Midget Boys had beaten last year in the semi-finals so it was a rematch game for them. However for the second time the Riverdale Spartans was in a close game and came out with a win. Their second game was the Riverdale home opener for basketball at every level, but to disappointment, they came up short, losing to Howard S. Billing High School. Their following game was against Laurenhill Academy and they won by 10 points. Riverdale was involved in another close game but unfortunately they came up short again against Royal Vale High School, losing by 4. Out of the 4 games they had played, when they lost, they lost by under 3. The most they have won by was 10, so most of the time they are involved in close games. Their record is currently 2-2, hopefully they improve and learn how to play as a team.

Back-To-Back Soccer
To start off the back to back soccer games at Riverdale High school was the Midget Boys against the first placed Loyola High School. In this previous matchup, Riverdale was defeated 8-2 at Loyola’s field. This was their chance at revenge against them. Early In the game, 2 goals were scored by Melvin Williams and Robert Roloff. But before the half of the game, Loyola scored a goal which gave Riverdale a 2-1 lead going into the second half. Unfortunately, Loyola scored 2 other goals and took the lead. With less than 10 minutes to go in the game, Tymal Simpson scored a goal tying the game at 3-3 giving Riverdale a shot at winning the game. However, Loyola managed to score at the end of the game giving them the win. The final score of the game was 4-3 for Loyola.
The second game was Riverdale Juvenile Boys against Lakeside Academy. This game was like ping-pong, two goals scored by Lakeside followed by two goals by Jordan Gabay. As the game staring getting closer to the end, Dillon Antoine scored an amazing goals with few minutes in the game to give Riverdale the lead with under a minute left in the game. All Riverdale had to was to hold off Lakeside for a about a minute and they would win the game. A careless mistake led to a last minute offensive attack which resulted in a goal for Lakeside tying the game at 3. The game ended in a draw 3-3.

Riverdale Basketball
On the 13th of October, the Riverdale Juvenile Boys basketball team had their first exhibition game against College Laval. The other team was much more intimidating than the Riverdale team. In the first half the Riverdale Spartans were just getting used to playing together in a game situation. At halftime, the Spartans were surprisingly winning by 1 point, thanks to a last second shot by Zachary Stacey. The score remained close throughout the entire game. However in the closing of the game, Khaleel Mills missed both of his free throws to take Riverdale into lead, so the score remained at 56-57. But luckily for the Spartans, the ball possession remained with them during the last 0.8 seconds of the game. The Spartans did a successful inbound play, which gave them a scoring chance, however they did not capitalize on the opportunity and lost the game by 1.

Habs Column
Good news, Carey Price is back and he’s not going anywhere! On October 15th he made 22 saves from the Buffalo Sabers. There’s still more, they won 2-1! October 16th they won, again 4-3 against the Senators (Ottawa). So all we got to do is show our support and enthusiasm for hockey, which is clearly Canada’s official sport. If you’re Canadian, don’t let the Habs down and they won’t let us down. For those who haven’t started to watch hockey, start watching it. Remember if hockey were boring they’d name it “Curling”. Stay tuned for the upcoming games!

Juvenile Boys Volleyball
The Riverdale Juvenile Boys Volleyball team has been having a tough but rewarding season so far. “I have seen a huge improvement in team play and team strategy,” said Coach Gabe when asked about the team. They tied a couple of times and lost just by a bit in games. Their best tournaments were at West Island College. They came out with hard, fought ties with Macdonald and John Rennie. Keep it up!
